Buttermere & Crummock

Crummock means ‘Crooked one’, which we presume refers to slightly bending shape of Crummock Water. Located between Buttermere and Loweswater, Crummock Water is sizeable (at 2 and a half miles long) and a joy to explore.

The low-level paths around the water are brilliant, but for a truly memorable experience we’d recommend ascending Rannerdale Knotts to really appreciate the view! Both sailboats and rowing boats are available for hire on Crummock Water.

Crummock’s sibling, Buttermere, is half the size (1 and a quarter miles long) but just as beautiful – enjoy a leisurely walk around the circumference (approximately 4 and a half miles ), which includes a magical rock tunnel beneath Hassness.
